It has now been well over a year since Central Baptist Church (CBC) took on a new look during our Worship Services on Sunday mornings. The visual images presented during the services, especially during the sermon, have changed and enhanced our worship.
Many of you have expressed how much you enjoy the wonderful pictures and slides each week – how meaningful and appropriate. Others have expressed their enjoyment of a closer look during a baptism or baby dedication. Still others have expressed how the visual presentation during some of our special music productions has made the experience so much more enjoyable.
Each week your audio/visual team strives to make each of your worship experiences here at CBC as full and meaningful as possible. We have three areas we concentrate on each week.
Sound – a good sound mix during a service can and does make all the difference in the way the program is received. CBC has been blessed with a group of dedicated sound operators. They volunteer their time each Sunday for both morning services, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening. But, they also provide the audio needs for weddings, funerals, VBS, and so many other special programs. We notice them when something goes wrong, but we need to also notice them when everything goes right.
Worship Visuals – sometime back our Pastor made a decision he would like to try incorporating visual art, pictures and scripture into his sermon. This was a new and bold step for CBC at the time. He first began on his own to “mine” for the necessary visual effects. He soon realized it was just too time consuming. Then entered Ann Skipper, who was searching for a place where God could use her talents. Wow! What a match when she took on the responsibility of developing and fine turning the ideas and thoughts of our pastor as he developed each weeks sermon. Today we have come to expect the visual part of our pastor’s sermon. But, did you know that Ann begins on a Tuesday and works closely with the pastor and office staff right up to Saturday evening preparing what you will see.
Video - Gene Elliott had one camera and tripod which he was using to video some of the services, with a dream to make them available to our At Home members. One camera just doesn’t provide the quality of work our members deserve. So, each Sunday we record a mix from three cameras and the visuals to produce a DVD and CD of the complete service. We send one or both to each of our At Home members. You may not know that copies of all our services are available in the church library for checkout or purchase. In addition, the sermon can be viewed on demand from most anywhere on the internet. Soon, we hope to stream our services live on the internet. Most of the work to make this happen is done out of site in an undisclosed location. Actually, we recently moved this operation to the basement. We mix picture and sound for the DVD and CD. And, as many of you know, we simulcast the sermon to Fellowship Hall at 11:00 am every Sunday.
Have you ever thought about how you might get plugged in at Central Baptist? Is there something about this entire audio/visual thing that sounds interesting? Well, we have a place for you! The fact is that we need more volunteers. The more we have the better able we are to provide for the needs of our church and the easier it is on each volunteer. I would ask that you ask God, if this is something He would like you to do. If the answer comes back – YES, give me a call or contact the church office. By the way – we have a lot of fun as we serve our God and our church.
